Every operator is licensed. Every license is under selection.
A license is issued, not purchased. It is the Corporation’s document, carried by the operator,
presented at every terminal, and copied into every Selection Trial the operator enters.
License OP-7F3K-2209-C, class G, in good standing. An example: this license was never issued.
* An example, never issued. Any license without a live seal is just a souvenir.
What is on the license
Call sign
The name by which an operator is known. Two to twenty characters, printed as the operator spelt it, and unique
across the register: two call signs that look alike are one call sign, and only one license holds it.
Livery
Two colours, hull and trim. The Corporation prints in one ink. The livery is the only colour it issues,
and it is the operator’s.
Rig
A line drawing of the equipment on which the operator is rated. The Corporation owns the rig. The drawing
is the operator’s.
Operator No.
Issued once and never reissued. Printed on the license as an anti-counterfeiting measure, which it is.
Class
G. There is one class.
Standing
Good standing, under review or withheld. A status of the record, never of the person.
Class G
The Class G reform abolished not the workers but the category. There is one class, and it is not a rank: the
register has no ladder, no quota and no position in a list. An operator is an entry, and every entry is Class G.
Everyone starts there, and there is nowhere else to go.
Selection Trials
Entry copies the license into a Certified Copy, true at the hour of entry, so that a Trial record is a
historical document and not a live one.
Results are filed to the operator’s Record.
The bearer is under continuous selection. Selection is perpetual. Non-selection is not a penalty and may not be
appealed.
The Record
The Record is a productivity statement: throughput delivered, mass liberated, logged hours. It is flat,
uncompared and unranked. Transit is not compensable.
Yield share
Operators are not paid a wage. Yield share is settled after the rental, the fees, the deposit and the damage
schedule. The Corporation keeps the remainder, and the equipment.
How licensure proceeds
Clock in
An email address or a phone number, and a code sent to it. There is no password.
Set up the license
A call sign, two colours and a rig. About thirty seconds, and all of it can be changed later.
Present it
A terminal shows an eight-letter code. The operator approves the assignment on their own phone, standing in
front of it.
